Question: I’m getting ready to go on an extended cruise with my Beneteau sailboat and have run into an interesting problem. I want to make sure I have spares on board for things like fuses and electrical terminals.

Fuses like this one, rated for 500 amps and serving the house battery bank, may need to be special-ordered. Make sure to keep a spare on board.

I recently went down to my local marine store and found just about everything I needed except for one major item, the fuse shown in the photo I sent in. This has me concerned because the fuse is the primary fuse for my house battery bank. So, if it should blow I’m going to be pretty much out of luck. Can you help me find a source for this fuse?

Answer: It’s a good idea to keep these sort items in stock on board, whether you’re going on an extended cruise or not. You’re right about these fuses being hard to come by -- very few marine stores will have them in stock, at least not here in North America. After checking around a bit myself, I think the best solution would be to give Beneteau USA a call and order a spare or two directly. Calling 843-629-5320 should get you connected to someone that can get you set up. Or email sail@beneteau.com. I recommend you get spares for any of the fuses on your boat that look like the one in your photo, and make sure to match the amperage ratings exactly.
