Say what you will about stout 29- and 33-foot offshore boats that handle bad conditions like "larger models": When the open-water ride gets rough, there's no substitute for a deep cockpit, strong bolsters and plenty of deck in front of you. At 41 feet 9 inches long and 8 feet 3 inches wide, the Formula 419 FAS3Tech delivers all that and a whole lot more.
The flagship of the Formula line manufactured by Thunderbird Products, the 419 slices through swells on a 24-degree deep-V bottom. Weighing in at approximately 13,100 pounds, it crushes chop. The boats vaunted two-step FAS3Tech multiple-running-surface bottom enhances top end without compromising stability or handling. With larger twin or triple engines from Mercury Racing under the power engine hatch, the 419 reportedly runs more than 80 mph.
That's moving; but thanks to McLeod power bolsters and footrests for the driver and co-pilot and a deep four-passenger rear bench, that's moving comfortably. At the dash, the driver looks forward to complete Gaffrig instrumentation, as well as mechanical indicators for the standard trim tabs, a tilt steering wheel, and Kiekhaefer Zero Effort throttles and shifters with trim-control on the inner throttle handle.
In the cabin, all seating is upholstered in UltraLeather HP. (Even the cabin headliner is made of this plush-yet-durable material). The upholstered V-berth can accommodate two people. The galley is equipped with a refrigerator, a concealed trash receptacle and a hot- and cold-water sink. There's also a sink in the fully enclosed head compartment, as well as a VaccuFlush unit. Other cabin niceties include a Kenwood AM/FM cassette stereo with a 10-disc CD changer and a 13-inch television/VCR.
Inviting as it is, chances are that owners and their guests won't squander much time in the cabin. They will, however, spend plenty of running time, which will make them grateful for the 419's 225-gallon fuel capacity.
