Maritimo M58 Motoryacht: Sky Box

On the newest Maritimo in the fleet, efficiency and luxury go hand in hand.

With the Maritimo M58 Motoryacht, this Australian builder debuts a boat that’s true to the company’s founding mission. When Maritimo founder Bill Barry-Cotter started the company, his goal was to build tough, practical boats that wouldn’t let a skipper down when offshore conditions took a sharp turn for the worse. That philosophy helped drive the success of Maritimo, which is now the second biggest builder of large motoryachts in Australia.

The Maritimo M58 is designed and built for cruising – even when the seas kick up.

The M58 is the first in a new range of high-performance luxury cruisers designed around that key mission. As a result, this flybridge yacht has plenty of cruising DNA. With a seakindly ride, quality construction, easy to service systems and an incredibly comfortable interior, the M58 is built to run well beyond the marina.

The M58 is being marketed by Maritimo as a “boaties’ boat,” a flybridge yacht with the systems, features and layout that an avid and experienced owner can appreciate—including the builder’s trademark side decks, which are wide and easy to navigate.

The flybridge isn’t a mere helm station; it’s laid out to function as an entertainment area, as well.

The enclosed flybridge is not just a helm station. This climate-controlled, weather-protected space also functions as a second saloon, or even a second stateroom since the dinette converts to a large double berth. A sunroof is overhead. The bridge also features an extended aft balcony, where there’s a refrigerator and room for table and chairs. It’s a great place from which to take in the view after the hook is down, or simply spread out charts and plan the next day’s run.

Speaking of running: according to the builder, the M58 will deliver a cruising speed of 25 knots when powered by twin Volvo D13 800-hp engines with shaft drives. The M58 boasts class-leading fuel efficiency, too. Says Barry-Cotter, “The fuel figures at 31.7 knots are better than the figures on our old 45, yet the M58 is a third heavier again.”

From the flybridge there’s access down to the salon via a handsome internal staircase that’s crafted with timber and stainless-steel. The staircase is at the aft end of the saloon. Forward of it is a dining table for up to six diners. The saloon is surrounded by big windows for breathtaking views, and at the aft end of the salon, to starboard, is a fully equipped galley. It’s located beside bi-fold salon doors that open the galley to the cockpit. Because the galley is just one small step up from the cockpit, entertaining here is relatively effortless.

Maritimo M38 specificationsCruisers who plan extended stays aboard will appreciate that the M58 sleeps five passengers in three cabins. The skipper and guest have the best accommodations in the full-beam master suite that’s located amidships. On the starboard side of the master suite is a long and lovely chaise lounge, above which is a large port. The master suite is also offered with a vanity or a desk.

Throughout the boat Maritimo sweats the small stuff; in the cockpit, evidence of that attention to detail can be seen in the stowage compartments for ropes and fenders, in the oversized lazarette, and even in the engine room access, where there’s a molded staircase. And these are details that a serious cruiser is sure to appreciate – whether he’s an Aussie or an American.
