Key Largo and Clearwater: Reintroduced by SAK Marine

A new company breathes life into two fishing boat lines.

Fishing boat aficionados have long known the names Key Largo and Clearwater, but they haven’t seen new models from these builders in a while. The wait is over, thanks to SAK Marine’s acquisition of these two lines. We told you about SAK’s recent moves to bring both well-known name brands and long-time industry professionals into the fold, and now they’re ready to kick things off by reintroducing Key Largo and Clearwater.

The latest line of Key Largo boats includes center consoles, bay boats, and flats boats, ranging from 15 to 22 feet. All come with a 10-year structural warranty, and a lifetime warranty on the stringers, floor, and transom. The larger models feature walk-in consoles, and all models have Coosa-cored transoms, angling perks like aerated livewells, and standard no-feedback steering. The surprise comes when you start looking at pricing. The 17-foot bay boat, for example, barely goes over $22,000 rigged with a Yamaha F70 four-stroke outboard. And a 22-footer with an F150 can be had for a hair over 38K.

The Clearwater line is a bit more upscale, ranging from a $30,000 18-foot center console to a $100,000 28-footer. Unlike the Key Largo’s spackle-finish interiors, the Clearwaters have a full inner liner. Plus, they come with a slew of standard features. The 2300 WI center console, for example, has two insulated bow compartments that fold into a casting deck and/or bow seating, four tackle stowage boxes, a locking walk-in console, four gunwale-mounted rodholders, a raw water washdown, Lenco trim tabs, a lighted 45-gallon livewell, and Sea Star hydraulic steering. Stringers and bulkheads are constructed of Coosa Composites Bluewater 26 panels, and foam is pumped into voids between the hull and deck.

The Clearwater 2300 WI is surprisingly roomy for the LOA, thanks to a 9’6” beam.

The 2300 WI is much roomier than most boats of this LOA, which makes sense when you take note of the 9’6” beam. That’s a full foot wider than most boats in this class, which will make it tough to trailer in some states (which require permits for loads over 8’6” wide) but if you like bringing a lot of gear or a lot of passengers, the extra room is certainly going to be appreciated. And truth be told, many boats are built to the 8’6” spec purely to meet trailering regulations—not because it’s the “perfect” width for all 20-something boats—and it makes sense to design a boat for the time spent on the water, not the time spent on the road.

Another way the 2300 WI ups the ante is with a 110-gallon fuel capacity. That’s notably more than on many boats of this size, and it makes forays to the canyons or other far-off fishing spots a very real possibility. This model offers several other optional amenities, like a 12-gallon freshwater system (which comes with a transom shower) and a MB Quart waterproof stereo, which can help you shift gears when it’s time to go from chum-slinging to wine-sipping. Upscale? You betcha—and it’s just one of the new models we’ll be seeing from SAK in the near future. Stay tuned…
