Powerboat Completes 2005 West Coast Roundups
Magazine test models from entry-level to high-speed.
VENTURA, Calif. — The Powerboat magazine test team finished the West Coast leg of evaluations last week for four roundups on the Colorado River in Parker, Ariz. Categories in the roundups were: 100-mph boats, entry-level performance models for less than $80,000, custom deck boats and boats powered by 525-hp HP525EFI engines, the most popular — and least expensive — offering in the Mercury Racing engine line.
In the 100-mph class, there were models from Dave’s Custom Boats, Eliminator Boats, Howard Boats and more. Entries in the less-than-$80,000 class included offerings from Caliber 1, Domin8tor and B & H. Deck boats included beauties from Advantage, Conquest and E-Ticket. Eliminator and several other West Coast builders also submitted models for the 525EFI-engine-powered class.
“The response to these roundups has been incredible — the categories we chose are strong,” said Brett Becker, editor of Powerboat magazine. “And there’s a lot more coming.”
In mid-May, the Powerboat test team heads to Sarasota, Fla., for the East Coast leg of testing. The roundups will run in the summer issues of the magazine, which has been published for 37 years.
