Sweden 42: Outstanding On-Board Living

Sweden 42: Sweden Yachts debuts a new sailboat

img1707This new 42-footer launched in July of 2002. The 42 is based on the same concept that made the 45 an instant success: exceptionally easy handling, with outstanding on-board living and sailing qualities

The self-tacking jib, a large mainsail on a 14/15 fractional rig with swept backspreaders, no baby-stay and no runners, makes it child’s play to handle. Sailing speed is guaranteed by Peter Norlin’s clever naval design incorporating new keel & rudderprofiles.

The 42 offers an accomodation with 3 double cabins, 2 heads, dinette salon, galley and navstation. It is all made with the quality carpentry and attention to detail that is a hallmark of Sweden Yachts worldwide.

The deck layout is a further evolution of the attractive, well known wedge-deck design, combined with a large, protected cockpit featuring a functional walk-through exit at the transom.

Designer’s Comments:

img1703“The 42 being the latest design in our new line of yachts is aimed for the experienced yachtsmen with the taste for a fine yacht. The further development of building-methods makes it possible for us to offer a yacht of exceptional quality of build at a very competitive price. Those familiar with how we have designed and built yachts over the years will quickly find a number of very interesting developments. Woodwork is at an even higher level of finish and refinement. Deck-design is as far away from the ‘gorilla-lay-out’ of the past that one can imagine. Self-tacking jib and large mainsail sheeted on the coachroof, all controls at easy reach close to the helmsman, and a free uncluttered cockpit takes all the efforts out of sailing and making all family-members at ease.

Yet the 42 has a racing pedigree! Large sail-area, high ballast ratio, and hydrodynamic like few other boats makes her a winner in any weekend outward or homeward ‘race’ among friends. Manoeuvrability and engine trust makes any harbour visit a temptation to ‘show-off’, but of course you never do such a thing.
