img1699Beneteau USA will unveil their newest 42-footer at the Annapolis Boat Show on Thursday, October 10th. The boat will be under shroud at the Beneteau display until 11am when the yacht will be “unveiled” for the first time at this worldwide public premier.

The 423 is based on the design of their successful 473, with Groupe Finot again drawing the lines. Groupe Finot’s Open 60 design influence is more evident in the 473, buy there are traces of it here as well, most notably in the curved coachroof.

img1698Client customization options include a choice of 3 different keels ranging from a shoal draft of 4’9″ to a deep draft of 6′ 11″. Interior layout options include either a 2 cabin / 2 head or 3 cabin / 2 head configuration. This entails more than just the usual dividing wall in a back cabin to create two rooms. In the 2 / 2 version the galley is along the port side in a straight counter configuration, the 3 / 2 version brings the galley to starboard, tucking it aft of the salon settee and wrapping the counter and refrigeration areas around the sinks and stove. In both options the forward double bunk area has its own private head and shower compartment.

Three large windows face the bow from the salon, in combination with numerous portlights, ports and hatches there is an abundance of light below without the exaggerated coachroof of a raised salon.

Sails are Neil Pryde “performance cut” and offer further choices for the prospective buyer: either in a “classic” rig or with roller furling, both with masthead rigging. Power is from a high torque / low RPM Volvo diesel.

On deck it’s all Lewmar hardware and hatches; the cockpit is laid out for single or short-handed sailing.

img1697The hull is built to CE offshore A category standards. Built in Beneteau’s Marion, SC facility, the hull is hand-laid solid G.R.P. with a G.R.P. structural grid. The grid is laminated using high-strength non-woven stitch mat fiberglass and unidirectional rovings to achieve maximum structural distribution of all loads and forces while controlling weight.

“Shortly after the introduction of the Beneteau 473, we took over 70 orders in less than 10 months. Based on the successful 473′s systems and designs, we expect no less from the Beneteau 423″, said Michael Lecholop, Vice President of Sales at Beneteau USA.

The boat is agressively priced, offered initially at $164,700, FOB Marion, SC.
