West Marine Atlantic Cup

The fun race from the Caribbean to the States

February 19th 2002

img10941When it’s time to head north, wrap up your Caribbean winter with a bang! Join the West Marine Atlantic Cup fleet for the fun race from Tortola, BVI to the Chesapeake.

The event is scheduled to start May 12 from hospitable Village Cay Marina in Road Town, Tortola, BVI. The event takes place a week after the conclusion of Antigua Sailing Week, allowing crews to join in the race north. A volunteer crew list will be available to skippers, to help round out crews.

The fleet will gather at Village Cay on May 10 for registration and briefings. En route, professional weather forecasting will be shared daily by the fleet. Twice daily radio chats will include position reporting and keep the fleet in touch. Finishes will be taken at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.

Send-off parties are planned for Village Cay and the Royal BVI Yacht Club, with an awards dinner at Hampton (VA) Yacht Club.

Eligibility

The West Marine Atlantic Cup is open to seaworthy yachts of any type or nationality. The lower size limit shall be 34 feet LOA. All boats must pass inspection and must be sailed by two or moresailors, with final determinations made by the Event Committee. There must be at least one experienced offshore sailor on board.

Responsibility

No liability or other responsibility is accepted by the organizers or sponsors toward the entrants, nor toward third parties with whom the entrants may become involved.
