Chaparral 270 Signature: Escape Artist
With the Chaparral 270 Signature, overnight getaways should be a breeze
Chaparral built its strong reputation on its line of bowrider and cuddy-cabin runabouts. Often lost in that acclaim is that the Nashville, Ga.-based company builds a smart line of cruisers called the Signature Series. Models in the line range from 24 to 35 feet long and are designed with weekending firmly in mind.
Right in the middle of the Signature line is the popular 270. Measuring 26 feet 2 inches long with a 9-foot beam, the 6,249-pound cruiser rides on an Extended V-Plane hull. Power-efficient and agile, the Extended V-Plane bottom is something of a Chaparral staple and has proven itself over the years.
In the cabin, the Signature 270 features a complete galley and a private head compartment with a sink and cabinets. Its dinette area converts to a large V-berth, and a large deck hatch over the berth lets in fresh air and natural light, as does a long port on each side of the deck.
The cockpit features a bucket seat for the driver, a three-person bench seat across from the bucket seat and a two-person bench aft. A tilt steering wheel and full instrumentation are standard.
Access to the foredeck is simplified by a walk-through windshield, nonskid deck surfacing and stainless-steel bow rails. For access to the swim platform, there’s a transom door.
The 270 Signature is offered with twin small-block engines or a single big-block engine. Fuel capacity is 105 gallons.
